Adventures in Beading

On alternate Wednesdays I’m going to be keeping you all up to date with my lessons and stuff with beading.

Since I was still waiting on ear wires, I had to find something else to do.  So I created some ornaments from a picture I found online somewhere.  They’re fairly simple, and after I’d made one…

I had to make another one!

And then I decided to make my second ever tutorial, which you saw yesterday.  But making that meant that I’d made another ornament 🙂

And another one, because they’re so addictive!

They’re so pretty!

After that I went back to playing with some wire.  I have this roll of green wire in my supplies…

And I’ve been meaning to get some crimp clasps for it to make bracelets, but I have no idea what size the wire is.  Then I realised I could just bend loops in it to make clasps.

So I made my first bracelet…

…but then encountered a problem.  The wire is not, as I thought, memory wire.  It bends far too easily.

Not that I’ve ever seen memory wire, but I’m pretty sure this isn’t it.  Which left me with no idea what to do with the stuff.  So I did some experimenting.

I’d found this picture a long time ago…

..and thought I’d have a go.  I probably didn’t pick the best shaped bead, but I think I did okay.

And then I had a go at copying another picture…

…I’m not unhappy with it, but I could use some more practice.

I tried a clasp method I’d seen online, but that DEFINITELY needs more practice.

I practiced wrapping a round washer bead thing that I had no idea what to do with…

…and then I just practiced my spirals.

For the following session I felt like doing something simple, so I made three cute little bracelets.  One as a gift…

2014-11-22 21.41.25

…one for me…

…and one for selling stock.

Unfortunately, within two hours of wearing the one I’d made for me, the cord I’d used snapped and all the pretty beads went all over the floor.  I managed to save most of them, but now I have to go and remake the other two.

Moments like that really damage my confidence.
