The Origami Continues

As I’m sure you’ve noticed by now, I’ve been teaching myself origami.

I haven’t really done a lot in a while, but I’m determined to do more.  I picked a cute little cat video by Origamite on YouTube.

It looks fairly simple from just the picture, but it’s not.  On my first attempt I didn’t get very far at all.

On my second attempt, I managed a step or two further..

…but then it got to the “molding” bit.  I’m not so good at the molding.  It’s not precise enough for me to copy.

So I skipped to something with no molding.  Boxes!

This one is by OrigamiTree on YouTube.

It took me AGES to realise why my little squares weren’t folding properly.  She’s American.  Their A4 is not the same size as ours.  Luckily, she mentioned the measurements she used, so I trimmed my A4 page to 8.5 x 11″ and carried on.

Now, I’ve made a few of these, including one or two with A5 paper.  I actually started with A5, before I worked out the measurements thing.  It’s a cute little box.

But it wasn’t looking quite tidy enough for me.

When I figured out the measurements it looked a little better, but not perfect.

So I kept trying.

It doesn’t seem overly consistent to me.  The ones in paper seem a bit looser.  These purple ones are in card.  It seems not to matter at all whether or not the little squares are actually square.  This one is with the proper measurements…

…maybe I just messed it up?  But this one is normal A4 paper.

I like the pattern though, and it’s cute.  So I’ll keep practicing at it, and seeing what I get.  Aside from a lot of little boxes.

I have definitely come to the conclusion though that I want a bone creaser.  My finger hurts.
